LUCKY MAKROPOULOS

HEAD COACH

GET TO KNOW

Coach Lucky's love for volleyball started during the 1984 Olympics watching Karch Kiraly and team dominate to win a gold medal. Cherry Hill New Jersey wasn't known for volleyball during the late 80's/early '90s however Coach Lucky remembers during his high school junior year his gym teacher Mr. Romelo (who coach lucky thanks for starting him on his 25+ year volleyball journey) turned to coach Lucky and asked, "Do you know anything about volleyball?" Coach Lucky didn't but was ready to absorb as much knowledge Mr. Romelo had to offer. Coach Lucky spent the next two years learning from Mr. Romelo then transferred his love for volleyball attending a division one college, Pennsylvania State University. At Penn State, Lucky went from playing recreational volleyball to setting for Penn State's club team. Highlights were scrimmaging against the varsity teams, both, men and women. In the last five years, Coach Lucky has coached club U11/U12/13/14. Currently, he is an assistant coach under Katie Goldhahn at College of San Mateo, Head Coach at Sacred Heart Prep 9th grade, and runs Encore Prep for rising 12-16-year-old athletes. Recently, you can find him coaching Stanford's national advanced setting and pass/set/dig clinics. He's an avid learner under Gold Medal Squared, The Art of Coaching Volleyball. He's acquired his USA Olympic Volleyball Coach Accredited Program (CAP1) certification and is on the path towards CAP2. His philosophy of providing a positive, safe, and competitive environment while developing each player's ability aligns perfectly with Encore's mission.
